Holiday season + your period? Let’s make it easier
Hi Lovelies,
The holidays are a magical time, but let’s be honest—it can also feel like a whirlwind of to-dos, from shopping for gifts to planning festive meals and juggling social events. And if your period happens to arrive during this busy season, it can make things even trickier.
Yes, I’ve had many years where my period has miraculously tied in with the Christmas season! 😩 It’s tough, but I’ve learned that with a bit of planning and a focus on self-care, you can navigate the chaos and enjoy the festivities without letting stress - or your period - get the better of you.
Here’s how I plan my holiday season to stay calm, feel prepared, and make sure I’m not sacrificing my well-being in the process.
1. Get ahead with a holiday plan
One thing I’ve realised over the years is that leaving things to the last minute is a recipe for stress. Now, I make a checklist early in the season, which includes:
- Gift shopping: I write down everyone I need to buy for and brainstorm ideas ahead of time.
- Meal planning: Whether I’m hosting or bringing a dish, I like to plan the menu early and make a detailed shopping list.
- Events and downtime: My calendar gets busy in December, so I make sure to block out time for family gatherings and for myself - it’s important to recharge.
Having a clear plan makes everything feel more manageable and keeps me focused on what matters most.
2. Delegate tasks
This one took me a while to embrace, but delegating is a lifesaver! You really don’t need to do it all yourself. Whether it’s asking a family member to help decorate, sharing the gift-wrapping duties, or even letting someone else handle part of the cooking, sharing the load makes the holidays much less stressful - and way more fun.
3. Prioritise self-care
I’ll admit, I’ve spent holidays completely focused on everyone else, but I’ve learned that taking care of yourself is so important. Here are a few simple things I like to do:
- Stay hydrated: It’s easy to forget, especially with all the mulled wine and hot chocolate around, but staying hydrated keeps your energy up.
- Take mini-breaks: Even 10 minutes for a quick walk or just to sit quietly with a cup of tea makes a difference.
- Snack smart: I love indulging during the holidays, but I balance it out with hormone-friendly snacks like nuts, seeds, and dark chocolate.
4. Simplify Your Period Care
If your period shows up during the holidays, it can add another layer of stress. That’s why I rely on our KIKI & GREEN reusable pads to keep things simple. They’re:
- Super absorbent: So I can stay confident and dry, even on busy days.
- Toxin: Gentle on my skin, because who has time for irritation during the holidays?
- Eco-friendly: Knowing I’m making a sustainable choice is just another little win during this season of excess!
Our pads make managing my period so much easier, so I can focus on everything else without worrying.
5. Remember: Perfection Isn’t the Goal
I used to stress over creating the “perfect” holiday, but I’ve realised no one notices the little details as much as I do. What really matters is spending time with loved ones, making memories, and giving myself the grace to enjoy the season without the pressure.
Final points
By planning ahead, sharing the load, and prioritising yourself, you can take the stress out of the holidays and make space for more joy. And remember, less stress isn’t just good for your holiday spirit - it’s great for your period too.
If you’re looking for ways to make this season easier, explore our reusable pads for stress-free period care, and let’s make this the happiest holiday yet!
With Love,
